car2go is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler North America Corporation operating as an innovative car sharing service in currently 9 major cities in North America.
In Austin, car2go fields a fleet of 300 smart fortwo vehicles that can be accessed by members on-demand or by reservation. Insurance, vehicle maintenance, fuel and public parking are all included when renting a vehicle for all car2go members!
With the company’s new free-floating car sharing concept, members have the ability to drive the vehicles from point-to-point and park at most public parking spots in the City of Austin, including all metered spots for free. We pay the city for all metered parking so our members do not have to!
To become a member, there is a one-time registration fee for a lifetime membership of $35. This fee covers the cost of obtaining and reviewing each person’s driving record to be included in the company’s insurance coverage, the RFID membership card along with other activation costs.
Members are charged only for their minute usage of the vehicles, ultimately giving members the flexibility of driving the vehicles for five minutes or even 5 hours! The rates are as follows:
At just $.38 per minute, members enjoy vehicle re-charging, parking, mileage, insurance, maintenance, cleaning, GPS navigation, 24/7 customer support services, and roadside assistance at no extra cost.
